Dolly Parton

Well, obviously, we love Dolly Parton. She’s amazing, kind, and always herself.

Other girl-power heroes of our founder are the brassy/sassy/classy Divine Miss Bette Midler, and the lovely and stunningly wonderful Julie Andrews.

Part of the motivation for formalizing this church was this video by the amazingly talented Chris Calogero. Linked with his permission, he was a total sweetheart about it.

Kurt Vonnegut was a grumpy old bastard who said some beautiful things.

Jason Isbell (along with the 400 Unit) is a fantastic musician and a pretty great person. He’s also hilarious in interviews. His wife, Amanda Shires, is a similarly talented badass.

[We’re not huge country music fans in this church/house, but Dolly and Jason transcend genre. They’re just incredible people making incredible music.]

The Japanese have a concept called “mono no aware” (pronounced ah-wah-ray) that is about the beauty of impermanence. This concept is summed up well by the blooming of cherry trees every year. 🌸

And of course, the first law of thermodynamics, which dictates that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It’s the only spiritual comfort our founder truly believes in.
