Statement of Beliefs

• We believe in Kindness as a basic principle and philosophy. We try always to be kind to others and to be generous with our time and energy, while maintaining safe and healthy boundaries for ourselves and the people we love.
• We believe that kindness and generosity allow us to interact with the world around us in a healthier, happier way, and enable us to be kinder and more generous with ourselves.
• We believe that Dolly Parton is as close to a perfect human being as has ever been born.
• We believe that there is great beauty in impermanence, which gives our lives greater value and encourages us to appreciate what we have.
• We believe in two statements made by the late, great Kurt Vonnegut:
  • Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies-“God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
  • And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”
• We believe in the first law of thermodynamics, put simply, that energy cannot be created nor destroyed.
• We believe that we are part of a cosmic whole, drops of water falling from the clouds at the times of our births, and that we rejoin the ocean, which is everything, when we die.
